Project Description
Centre Hospitalier Nord
France
Strategy consulting and management
This large regional hospital in northern France, which operates across two sites, contacted us urgently to compensate for the unexpected departure of two deputy directors, just when it was dealing with organizational and economic instability and going through the process of developing its real estate assets and transferring various activities.
Main site
The assignment on the main site (950 beds, 1800 employees and a full range of medical and surgical specialties) consisted in supervising the reorganization and implementation of nephrology services, reorganizing pediatric emergency procedures, splitting the medicine department into two separate units, and moving rehabilitation beds to a neighboring facility.
Secondary site
The assignment on the secondary site (178 beds for geriatric patients, 250 employees) consisted in responding effectively to an injunction from the health authorities to rebalance the books, and running an ambitious real estate restructuring plan on an occupied site (extension of the geriatric medicine and palliative care department, upgrading of fire safety procedures and water supplies across all departments, and general reconfiguration of patient and logistics flows).
These two complex assignments were carried out over the course of a year. The two managers in charge of operations met the defined objectives: the main site was reorganized, became more efficient, and is now a benchmark for other establishments in the area. The secondary site now meets all of the region’s geriatric care needs. It was certified without qualification by the Haute Autorité de Santé (the French National Health Authority) for the quality and safety of its services, and this year posted its first budget surplus to the satisfaction of its public financers.
